Prepare

Before leaving home, make sure you’ve ticked all the boxes:

  • Check that the ride matches your fitness level
  • Eat well the day before and on the morning of the ride
  • If you’re not feeling well, do not join, no worries
  • Block enough time in your day to enjoy the ride
  • Bring some cash for a coffee stop if you can afford it
  • Download the GPX file onto your bike computer if you have one
  • Make sure your phone, GPS and lights are fully charged
  • ALWAYS bring snacks for the road: bars, gels, fruits, biscuits, and most importantly a bottle filled with water
  • Bring what you need to fix a flat (spare tube, patches, pump)
  • Join the WhatsApp group to stay in the loop

Stay safe

The road can be dangerous and riding in a group isn’t always straightforward. Follow these rules so that every ride goes smoothly:

  • Visible is a cycling community, not a club: you are not insured by the organisation. During rides, everyone is responsible for their own actions
  • Always check for yourself that no vehicle is coming before pulling out, even if someone calls the road clear
  • Wearing a helmet is MANDATORY !
  • Keep your speed in check on descents!
  • Follow the rules of the road
  • Be respectful towards other road users

Look out for each other

Visible is first and foremost a human adventure to connect with people like us (or not) through sport.

  • Be on time at the meeting point, or let the group know if you’re running late
  • Respect the pronouns of the people riding with you
  • LGBT-phobic remarks are against the law, even more during Visible rides
  • If you notice someone is struggling, slow down and offer your help
  • If you’re faster than the group, wait at the top of the climbs so everyone stays together
  • NEVER leave anyone behind on their own

Communicate

During a Visible ride, not everyone knows each other. It’s essential to communicate well so that information gets passed along:

  • Point out obstacles on the road to the riders behind you
  • Raise your hand to signal you’re slowing down
  • If you’re unsure about the route, ask those around you before committing
  • If you’re lost, send a message on the WhatsApp group

Have fun

Remember that Visible rides are all about having a good time among LGBTQIA+ people and allies. It’s not a race! On the climbs, take a moment to look up and enjoy nature. And if you’re not too out of breath, take the chance to chat with the people riding next to you.

Can’t wait to ride with you !
